Nicotiana, or Flowering Tobacco, has come a long way from its origins, where large lanky plants produced sweetly fragrant flowers. Breeding efforts have dwarfed down the plants significantly, making them highly suitable for annual garden borders and mixed containers. However, a good deal of the fragrance for which Nicotiana is known was also bred out of the plants. Now more breeding effort has been made to bring back at least some of the fragrance of the older varieties, yet keep the plant habit maintainable from both the grower’s and the gardener’s standpoint.
