  3. Disease

Major purchasers of squash grown by our customers:

  1. Consumer at roadside and farmers’ markets
  2. Grocery stores
  3. Restaurant and Food Service

Characteristics that meet the growers challenges:

  1. High yielding varieties
  2. High quality fruit characteristics
  3. Disease tolerance

Varieties for shipping: All varieties are capable of being used for shipping. Winter squash will store and ship the best due to its hard rind

Organic: We have chosen to offer our newer hybrids that have good disease packages as untreated seed. Organic seed is available for a couple of our winter squash varieties.

All summer squash varieties have about the same shelf life. Winter squash has a much better shelf life due to the fact that it has a hard rind and firm flesh.

Accessories used:

  1. Black plastic mulch
  2. Drip irrigation
  3. Row covers
  4. Fungicides
  5. Insecticides

  OUR COMPANY

The Harris Seeds company began its catalog operation in 1879. It evolved from the efforts of Joseph Harris who became extremely successful in the selection of superior strains of vegetables and grains. The company became wildly popular because of his basic business philosophy - "Offer my customers a quality product at a fair price and they will return."
