Ligularia (Golden Ray)

Ligularia is big and bold, producing a mound of large, toothed foliage. Large flower spikes are carried above the heart-shaped foliage in mid-summer. It begins blooming at the bottom of the spike and works its way upward, lengthening the life of each spike's decorative vitality. It is very impressive planted in groups or as a background in the perennial border, and is relatively untroubled by pests and diseases.

Ligularia should be grown in fertile, deep, moist soil in dappled shade with some protection from strong winds that may damage the inflorescences. It is generally found in moist or wet grassland, scrub and open woodland, and beside mountain streams and ditches. Though it does well in well-drained soil so long as it is never entirely dries out, it is a true bog plant and can have water up to the head of the root without harm.

To plant bare root perennials, dig a hole large enough to encompass the roots without bending or circling. Set the plant in place so the crown (part of the plant where the root meets the stem) is about 1-2” below the soil surface. Cover with soil to the original soil surface and water thoroughly.

Supplied as #1 sized bare root.
