Gooseberry Pixwell

Gooseberry Pixwell

This product will not be available for the 2023 season due to supplier constraints.

The fruit of Pixwell gooseberry plants hangs on slender stems 1" below the branches. It is easy to pick - hence the name Pixwell. Pixwell plants produce white flowers in spring, followed by fruit on old wood in mid-summer. The fruit is medium sized, oval-shaped, and pale green in color before turning pink when fully ripe. The gooseberries are a bit too tart for fresh eating but great for jams and jellies. In the fall, the leaves turn an attractive purple. Pixwell forms a dense, rounded, 4 to 6', glossy-leafed shrub suitable for hedge planting. It needs regular summer and winter pruning to maximize fruit production, but because it is almost thornless, it is easier to prune than other gooseberries. It should bear the first year after planting, and is very productive. Mildew resistant. Self-pollinating. Semi-thornless. Hardiness zones 3 to 8.
