May Night, one of the most commonly used salvias, is covered in striking dark violet-blue flower spikes which remain upright and tidy throughout the season. The flowers are very attractive when set against a light colored background, and are useful in perennial borders, rock gardens or as an edging. It is a magnet for butterflies and hummingbirds and is also deer-resistant. It makes an excellent cut flower, fresh or dried, and is freshly aromatic. Dead-heading can improve its appearance and flowering. Perennial Plant of the Year 1997!
