Edelweiss is an early ripening American white grape that produces large clusters of medium-sized sweet fruit. Its high sugar content makes it an excellent dessert wine grape, with a mild, fruity labrusca flavor. Prize-winning wines have been made from the Edelweiss grape. It produces large clusters, and is commonly used for table, juice and jelly. For those who like the Niagara type flavor, the Edelweiss grape ripens at least a month earlier and has a growth habit that is much more controllable. When harvested at early maturity the flavor is mild. Left to hang, the flavor becomes stronger and muskier. Space plants 8'apart. Trailing habit. Self-pollinating. Early-mid season harvest: early-mid August. Hardiness zones 4-8.
