Frontenac is an extremely cold hardy, red American wine grape. It has been used to produce dry red wine, rose, and port. The deep colored wines Frontenac grapes produce have cherry, blackberry, black currant and plum notes that pair well with hearty foods. Frontenac produces grapes with high sugar and high acidity, so acid reducing techniques and blending are often used by the winemaker. Space plants 8'apart. Semi-trailing habit. Self-pollinating. Midseason harvest: mid-late September. Hardiness zones 3-8.
