Baco Noir is an important commercial American hybrid grape variety in the northern U.S.. The grape produces rich, highly pigmented red fruity wines, low in tannin, with pronounced acidity. Baco Noir grapes are frequently used in a blend with other red wines. Very vigorous, with an early bud break making it susceptible to injury from late spring frost damage. Performs well on heavy clay soils. Space 8 to 10' apart. Self-pollinating. Early to mid-season harvest: Mid-September. Hardiness zones 6-8.
