Dragon’s Breath was the talk of the California Spring trials circuit! Contrary to the low-growing early blooming celosia’s typically on the market, this variety is vigorous and blooms later but puts on a fantastic show of color for mid-late summer and early fall. Dragon's Breath flowers are a late flowering variety that can withstand hot and humid weather conditions and require minimal maintenance. The plant can thrive in situations with infrequent gardening, as it prefers soil that is more on the dry side, but young plants should still be well watered for better growth. Celosia Dragon's Breath seeds produce flowers with extra-large brilliant red plumes that are a lovely foil to the maroon foliage. Dragon’s Breath celosia is perfectly suited for 10” to gallon containers and looks marvelous in large landscape beds.

Celosia Dragon's Breath seeds perform well when directly sown in fertile soil. The annual flowers prefer full sun exposure, which is about six hours of direct sunlight a day. This vibrant plant has a flowering period that lasts throughout the warmer months, giving your garden a strikingly beautiful addition for longer.

If you like red, these are amazing!

"I’ve been growing Dragon’s Breath Celosia for quite a few years now and love it. From the day you plant it out, it gives you a great blaze of scarlet color in your garden. Ideally in the upper Midwest I would start these in early March; however I don’t return to my summer home there until early April. Starting them then, they are a bit small when I plant them out after frost, but quickly grow and begin to look great. One word of caution, mice love them and one year a mouse ate my whole crop of seedlings. Celosias are very frost tender so what I like to do is plant them in a border with wider spacing than normal. I then start ornamental kale mid-summer and tuck in between the celosias. Just before frost the combination is absolutely glorious. When frost finally takes out the celosias, the kale will continue bringing joy late into the season. I’ve only ever seen these as large very expensive plants in garden centers, they start easily from seed, and are a very economical way to bring lots of red into your garden palette."

Started strong but a lot

"Started strong but a lot died off after transplanting outside? I'm new to growing Celosia so I'm sure it was me. All my other Harris seeds are doing great. Im down 50% but the ones that came through are beautiful."

Breathtaking color

"A great planting for the right spot. The color is amazing. Very carefree, thrives on modest fertilization and watering. Here in SE NC, it remains strong and showy right up to December."

James F. (5/5)

Beautiful plants

"I’ve tried these for 2 years. They’re pricey for just 10 seeds but the germination rate for both years is only about 50% even though the package says it’s 90%. In the future I’ll order 2 packages to get what I need."
