Dr. Ted Superak of the Harris Moran Seed Co. developed this virus tolerant straightneck squash through conventional breeding efforts. Cougar squash offers the advantages of the precocious yellow gene along with added protection against ZYMV and Papaya Ringspot Virus. The fruit is quite similar to our popular Multipik and is produced on large bush type plants.

Great for Florida

"This variety did great. We like to plant in the late winter to avoid the heat but viruses tend to be the worst at that time of year. Was able to get a good harvest with this variety and no spraying."

Q&A

I enjoy this squash. I have noticed a little yellowing in the leaves. I am wondering if this is normal. I have it planted adjacent to my F1 Eight Ball squash, which is fine. No yellowing. Thoughts?
Hi John, Thanks for reaching out with your question. The yellowing you are seeing in your squash leaves may be caused by a variety of different circumstances. Sometimes this is indicative of a nutrient deficiency in the soil but can also be caused by insects, disease, too much or too little water, or due to the age of the plant. Many local agriculture extension offices will do foliar sampling and test the leaves to tell you what is happening with your plant and soil. This can help you as the grower identify the problem and give you information on how to mitigate the situation.
