Professional Grower Gladiolus

Gladiolus is easy to grow and fun to have in your garden. One season of growing will let you understand why they are a favorite with so many people. If you are someone who enjoys entertaining, they will give you many opportunities for showing off brilliant displays of colorful flowers, from gorgeous formal arrangements to simple bouquets. They will also add dramatic spikes of color to the garden. Gladiolus requires the same growing condition as most vegetables and garden flowers. It does well in almost any part of the United States. Enjoy it in your landscape this year!

An old-time favorite, gladiolus is commonly grown for elegant flower arrangements, lasting a week or more in the vase. Perhaps the most beautiful of all cut flowers, gladiolus makes an exceptionally colorful display at roadside stands and is a cut flower staple at farmers’ markets. You can also sell these beauties to your local florists. They come in a rainbow of colors, and their long stems mean you can grow armloads in a small space. Their sword-like foliage and tall, impressive flower spikes make striking accents in the mixed flower border. For best garden effect, plant in groups of six or more of a single color, or grow dozens of them in a bed reserved for cutting. Imagine the luxury of having gladiolus to display around the house!

Plant them in the spring, after the ground warms to about 50° F. Dig a hole 4-6”, place the corm in the hole, pointed side up, cover with soil and water thoroughly. Gladiolus will grow in any good garden soil but do need full sun and good drainage. They will require staking for best appearance and straightest stems. Space your planting times at two week intervals from early spring to late June to ensure a continuation of mid- late summer blooms. Increase water and fertilizer when flowers begin to develop. Gladiolus will winter over in zones 8-11; elsewhere dig them up in the fall and store indoors.

We offer only top grade corms. Supplied as Jumbo corm: 2+”diameter; #1 corm: 12/14 cm circumference, 1½ – 2” diameter; and #2 corm: 10/12 cm circumference, 1¼ – 1½” diameter)

  OUR COMPANY

The Harris Seeds company began catalog operation in 1879. It evolved from the efforts of Joseph Harris who was extremely successful in the selection of superior strains of vegetables and grains. The company became wildly popular because of his basic business philosophy - "Offer my customers a quality product at a fair price and they will return."
