Growing Okra

Okra seeds thrive in:

  • Warm temperatures: Hot weather and sunshine with nighttime temperatures of 60 degrees Fahrenheit or warmer are crucial when growing okra. If your region has short summers, plant seeds in peat pots a month before the last spring frost. Otherwise, sow them directly in the ground.
  • Fertile soil: Before planting, ensure you add compost to the ground. The seeds need well-drained soil with a pH of 6.5 to 7.0.
