Ageratum Aloha Blue F1 seeds

"I started these seeds indoors and they are thriving. Germination was 99%. Seed packets I purchase at local box stores do not have the germination rate as seen in seeds I purchase from Harris Seeds. I also purchased petunia seeds and they also are extremely healthy. Wish I purchased more for my indoor starters."

Q&A

Why have the shorter varieties of ageratum become so expensive or have disappeared entirely from most seed suppliers? The taller ones are still pretty much available at a semi-reasonable price. $13 is a lot for a single seed packet, and 500 seeds is too many for most home gardeners. Wish you would offer these in 50- or 100-seed packets instead.
Hello! Thank you for reaching out! We very much appreciate constructive feedback like this as it helps us to better serve our community. To answer your questions, often times the dwarf varieties are more expensive because there is more work involved for the breeder in keeping these varieties true. And while we understand the frustration on quantity/sizing, the reason for this is that these particular seeds are so very small that they cannot mechanically be sorted and counted. To offer package sizes as small as 50 would mean they have to be hand packaged which would only drive the cost up further. We recommend purchasing in the 500 count as using them for 2 or 3 seasons. As long as your seeds are kept cool, dry, and out of direct light, they should be perfectly viable for more than one season. We hope this helps.
