A rich history of leadership in the industry

The Rochester, N.Y., company was founded in 1879 by Joseph Harris, an English immigrant who used his expertise in the selection of superior strains of vegetables and grains to build a successful business that was owned and managed by his family for three generations.

The company founder’s grandson, Joe Harris, was chiefly responsible for introducing some of the exceptional quality vegetable hybrids still found in the grower and home garden marketplaces today.
About a century after its founding, the Harris family sold the company to corporate owners. Harris Seeds’ current private ownership acquired the business in the mid-1980s, keeping the company in Rochester and continuing to this day to follow Joseph Harris’ philosophy – “offer our customers a quality product at a fair price, and they will return.”

A vision for the future with your goals in mind

Going forward, the Harris Seeds name will retain a specific focus on commercial growers, including farms and greenhouses. Harris Seeds’ new GardenTrends brand will concentrate on serving the unique needs of our home-gardening customers. But whether you’re growing a few dozen plants in the backyard, or tending to hundreds of acres, Harris Seeds and our friendly, knowledgeable staff is committed to providing you with the finest agricultural products at fair prices.
