Easy to grow, beautiful in the garden

"Hyacinth Bean Ruby Moon has performed well in my zone 7b north Georgia garden. I have tried in vain for several years to find a summer blooming plant to grow on my garden arbor, but other plants start to fade by mid-summer. Hyacinth Bean Ruby Moon is growing strong through drought and searing sun, and is not impacted by disease or bugs. I started the seeds indoors, then transplanted outside when the plants were about 6 inches tall. They support themselves as they climb the arbor. The purple foliage, flowers, and seed pods are stunning in the garden."

100% of the seeds sprouted

"100% of the seeds sprouted and are growing well! Can’t wait for the beautiful purple blooms!"

Amazingly Rapid Germination

"I’ve never had luck getting these seeds to germinate. This is the first time I’ve used Harris’s seeds and they knocked the top off my small indoor greenhouse by the third day. I am amazed. They are now happily reaching for the sky."

Great surprise bloom

"I planted this as a darker foliage quick growing option to cover an arbor. What I was not anticipating was the BEAUTIFUL long purple spikes of flowers that arrived in early fall on the vine. It did take a while to get to the blooming stage, but totally worth it. I cut a few to attempt to mix in with some dahlias for a cut arrangement and it was a wonderful accent with almost glowing purple blooms on long straight stems that surprisingly held up well in the vase for several days."

Q&A

What does germination below our standard. Overpacked 1% mean. I ordered these on Amazon. Are they your seconds or something?
Hi Beth! Excellent question! Here at Harris Seeds, optimal germination is one of our highest priorities. We test each and every batch of seed to make sure rates are to our standard. If it falls short by just a very small percentage, we include extra seed to make up the difference just in case there is reseeding needed. This is generally only seen in more unusual ornamentals such as your Hyacinth Bean when it is difficult to find another breeder/source for said seed. We hope you won't need those extra seeds, but they're there just in case. Happy growing!
What does weeks to finish mean?
Hi Jen, "Weeks to finish" (or "finishing times") is a commercial growers' term referring to how long it takes to grow a variety into a saleable crop (to sell at a garden center for example). We apologize for any confusion.
