Growing Tips

Before planting your Yellow Doll Watermelon seeds, ensure you have light, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.5 to 7.5 and a southern exposure. If you are starting the seeds indoors, start them no sooner than two to three weeks before the last frost. To start the seeds outdoors, plant them after the last frost when soil temperatures reach above 70 degrees Fahrenheit. While the Yellow Doll Watermelon seeds are germinating, give them at least 2 inches of water every week.

As the plants mature, they will require less water. To ensure your watermelons are at maximum sweetness, do not overwater them one week before harvest. To preserve the unique sweetness of your Yellow Doll Watermelons after harvesting, keep them at 40 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit for two to three weeks.

Popular Premium Watermelon

"We have grown the Yellow Doll watermelon for years, and it's a favorite of our customers."

Watermelon yellow doll

"Vigorous vines with prolific fruit production of extremely sweet melons. Grandsons favorite fruit. Only grow this if you have a lot of room in your garden as my vines are 10 feet across and still growing."

MORGANVILLE F. (5/5)

Earliest Watermelon

"Some people love the flavor of this yellow watermelon. I like it, but I plant it because it is a very early watermelon. Jade, Black Mountain, and Sugar Baby taste better to me, but after raising and giving away hundreds of melons, I can guarantee that our tastes vary from person to person. I had an orange watermelon that I thought was about as bad as I have tasted, but a school cook thought it was the best melon she ever tasted. Some people think Yellow Doll is the only melon that needs to be planted. I have not kept up with all the new melons as I am getting quite old."

Everything is growing good. Watermelon

"Everything is growing good. Watermelon is awful slow getting going."

Best Watermelon I’ve Ever Had!

"Plants germinated quickly. Plants were very fast growing and produced a nice amount of melons in a small space. But the taste! Oh the taste! Everyone who had one raved about them! So very very sweet with a very good watermelon flavor. And the size is perfect. I myself ate a couple of the smaller ones by myself. These are absolutely my go-to watermelon from now on. Just be careful while handling and transporting. We only moved our a few blocks and still treated them like nitroglycerin. And if you drop one, well I hope you have a dog that likes fruit. Or you could go full on “Joey Tribbiani” and eat it right off the ground. Go ahead, I won’t judge."
