This is the original strain of the high quality Hubbard squash. Although smaller than the New England strain, it still produces the classic hubbard-shaped fruit and measures 12" long by 7" in diameter. The 7-10 lb. fruit have a blue-gray rind and a sweet, fine textured orange flesh.

Growing well

"I only planted two of the seeds as a trap crop for squash vine borers, but they are growing well. As far as a trap crop, I am not sure as one of my three summer squash plants was destroyed by the vine borers."

I use Hubbard squash as

"I use Hubbard squash as the canary in the coal mine. I grow pumpkins and the pests that attack them go to the Hubbard squash first. When I see the bugs there I know to dust before they become a problem in the pumpkins."

the cadillac of winter squash....

"Last year I tried another winter squash but it didn't compare with the Hubbard. None keep in my cellar as well as the Hubbard, which kept over a year last year...... Really tough plant too, and fun to grow."
