Honeyboat Delicata squash has coppery tan fruit with green stripes that are very sweet and just the right size for roasting, single servings, or for the restaurant trade. The flesh of this unusual colored Delicata is high in calcium, potassium, folate and vitamins A & C. The fruits average 1lb. each and are sweet straight from the field. It is a reliable winter squash that stores better than the standard Delicata. The late Dr. James Baggett and his team at Oregon State University introduced Honeyboat Delicata to the growing world in 1990. It is a staple squash, and loved by commercial growers and home gardeners alike. We would like to recognize Jim for his breeding efforts, and introducing many beloved varieties to the growing world.

Nice variety of Delicata

"Each vine produced only one squash, but they were large size and delicious. Seemed to be moderately disease and pest resistant too, much better than buttercup."

Delicious!

"This is a very productive vine! The fruits sent for me even when the weather is hot. They also ripen quickly. Their flavor is absolutely delicious. I diced them up and mix them with pasta in a homemade Alfredo sauce. They would also be perfect if stuffed with orzo and sausage with some cheese. I will definitely be growing these again. (southeastern US, zone 8B.)"

Squash

"So far they’re growing and they look good."

Delacata Squash

"We had grown delacata squash years ago and I am a seed saver, but could not find my seeds - so I ordered them at Harris. They germinated quickly and grew beautifully. They produced profusely and the fruit was very tasty. I sold a lot to the health food store in town. I will be saving these seeds for next year."

Small squash

"The squash were very small but was probably from lack of rain"

Getting well into the growing

"Getting well into the growing season, and the Delicata appear to be doing well."

PETER L. (5/5)

Great Early Squash

"if you have a short season, Honeyboat is a great squash to grow. The squashes are on the small side and sweet and they ripen in a relatively short time. Unlike most winter squashes, they will ripe off the vine, which means you can harvest them if there's a frost warning and still get a crop. They are in the same family as zucchini (pepo) so grow delicata near your zucchini and the zucchini will pollinate the delicata. This is a big help because winter squashes can take time to have both male and female blossoms together, especially in uneven temperatures. Winter squashes are hard to grow in Newfoundland. Honeyboat gets the best results of any I have tried."

Q&A

Is this a bush-style or traditional vine?
Hi Connie, Honeyboat has a semi-vine habit. For habit information per variety, please see this chart: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1537/5553/files/ChartSquashWinter.pdf?v=1642523173
