Jeff Werner - Werner Farms

Werner Farms is a diversified 115 acre, family run vegetable & bedding plant operation located in the fertile Genesee Valley of western New York. Fresh market produce, cut flowers and plants are sold mainly through an onsite farm market & garden center, and at local farmers markets in the Rochester area. Their season begins with greenhouses bursting with color for Mother’s Day and ends with all the bright vibrant colors of fall pumpkins & mums.

Jeff is a third generation Harris Seeds customer. He remembers going to Harris Seeds as a child with his father and grandfather to pick up seeds for the farm. Many generations of Werners have trusted Harris Seeds to supply the seeds and plant material that enable their farm to succeed.

“My father taught me that you don’t have control over everything in farming, especially the weather. But you can control your inputs like working with a reputable quality seed company,” explains Jeff. “Harris Seeds understands how important seed quality is to a grower. We have a lot invested into planting an acre of a crop, and it all starts with seed quality being of top importance in achieving the best stand and a saleable crop.

Harris Seeds works well as a trusted supplier for our diversified operation. Whether it’s vegetable and flower seeds; plug and liners; or growing supplies, they are there with unmatched customer support. Rather than keeping track of orders or ordering from multiple vendors, I can go online to check or place additional orders for anything we need right from the tractor seat.”

In terms of increasing opportunities, cut flowers represent an exploding market for roadside and farmers market growers. Werner Farms is increasing both acreage and selection as consumers are looking to buy local. “I appreciate the expansive variety list and quick reference chart that Harris Seeds provides for cut sunflowers,” Jeff notes. “Fresh cut flowers add a nice touch to our market booths, adding more choices for our dedicated farm to table customers.”
