Sakata Harvest Collection

Growers prefer Astro for its more serrated or cut leaf type and its high yields of whole leaf arugula. The slow-bolting, vigorous plants can be cut at the baby or mature stage. Astro has a distinctly nutty flavor and an attractive medium green color. Our arugula seeds produce leaves with a tender texture and a consistently mild, spicy taste, making them a perfect addition to stir-fried or raw salad dishes.

Arugula seeds should be directly sown after the danger of frost has passed in spring, or in late summer for a fall harvest. The plant performs best in cooler months and tends to bolt under high temperatures. Arugula Astro seeds require rich, fertile, well-drained soil for the best growth.

The plant takes three to six days to germinate, and the baby leaves are harvestable in less than a month. For continuous harvest, you can sow the seeds every two to three weeks.

Interesting large leaves

"Easy to germinate quick to grow and quite prolific. Bolted earlier than I wanted, but I'll know for next year"

thank you!

"I recently purchased seeds from Harris Seeds. Of the seeds I planted germination has been good despite very dry conditions. I appreciate both the quality of the seeds, the price, the selections (especially of organic seeds) and the intermittent offers of free postage. So this is a rating for the company as well as the seeds."

Q&A

When in backorder, how long should I have to wait for the seeds to be shipped?
We currently have inventory in all sizes of Astro Arugula in both treated and organic, so you won't have to wait for backorders.
Do you have pelleted arugula seeds?
Hi Dave, Sorry, we do not have pelleted arugula seeds.
Is Fludioxonil safe ? Can i eat the arugula astro grown from seeds treated with Fludioxonil? Why don't you tell folks that the seeds are treated with this in the product description? Disappointed.
Hi Dianne, thank you for contacting us. We recognize that our customers and their growing needs are diverse. As such, we strive to offer our customers a mix of both treated and untreated vegetable seed. Arugula Astro is available as both treated seed and untreated seed. Crops that are grown from treated seed are certainly safe for consumption, and in fact, much of the non-organic produce in grocery stores and farmers' markets is grown using treated seed. Treated seed can improve germination rates and provide the young plant starts with an added layer of protection when the seedlings are most vulnerable from soil borne diseases and bacteria. In addition, some seed treatments can help protect a young plant from insect damage. These seed treatments typically breakdown in the soil within 10-14 days. Here is a link to our blog post that explains more about seed treatments: https://www.harrisseeds.com/blogs/from-the-ground-up/guide-to-seed-treatments Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions
What is treated seeds?
Hi Virginia, Arugula Astro is available in both treated seed and organic seed. Treated seed has been treated in an appropriate manner to protect it from specific seed- or soil-borne pathogens and thus improve its performance. The treatment may be hot water, chemical, or biological, depending on the pathogen involved. Treatment is applied under controlled conditions, in a commonly recognized fashion, at the manufacturer’s recommended rate. Organic seed is clean and untreated, and it was grown under Certified Organic conditions. Allowed for use in Certified Organic production.
