No germination

"I have been planting sweet corn all my life and decided to try this variety, this year. I won’t ever buy this one again. Just one kernel germinated. I’m glad I planted some of the kind I normally plant. It’s all up about 6”. Planted the exact same way."

Q&A

an this variety be grown in containers?
Good morning Heidi, thank you for contacting us. While there are many varieties of vegetables that lend themselves well to container growing, sweet corn is a difficult vegetable to successfully grow in a container for a couple of reasons. Primarily, sweet corn requires block planting, or multiple plants, in order for the silks to pollinate properly and to produce ears of corn (sweet corn is wind pollinated, not by bees or other insects). In addition, sweet corn requires very fertile soil to grow and produce ears of corn. It is very difficult for these conditions to be achieved in a container. If you have a space large enough for at least 12 plants and can fertilize the soil, it may be worth trying, though the plants may present with reduced height and vigor. Often, sweet corn that is not properly pollinated with fail to produce ears or will produce ears in which the kernels do not properly form. There are many sweet corn breeders who are working to breed a sweet corn designed specifically for containers and small spaces but it is not something that we currently offer. Please let us know if you have any other specific questions.
I am new to this so forgive me if this is a stupid question. Is this NON GMO?
Hi Holly, Thanks for your question! Correct - These seeds are Non-GMO.
is corn seed usable over multiple years?
Hi Eric, Yes, seed can be used over multiple years if it is stored properly. The expected longevity of the seed depends on the seed type and treatment. For large seed (corn, beans, peas) germination tends to hold steady for about 3 years, while smaller seed types can be longer. After a few years of storage, you may begin to see a decline in germination and seedling vigor.
