Commonly known as Love-Lies-Bleeding, this interesting old fashioned annual is best known for its large, drooping tassels of flowers that spill from the tall plants. For commercial growers, they are often grown for cut flower production for use in large fresh and dried arrangements and in wreaths where they add both color and texture.

Q&A

Can amaranthus be grown in a container such as a hanging basket?
That's a great question. and although the pictures show the flower heads hanging down, the plants themselves are tall enough to support the flowers without them touching the ground. They may grow ok in large containers on the ground, but would be too tall for hanging baskets.
Will the seeds harvested from autumn of 2022 germinate if planted in spring 2023? They were kept in paper bag indoors all winter. thanks
Hi Sharon, Thanks for reaching out. We are unsure what you're asking. If these are seeds you saved from spent blossoms last season and want to plant them this spring, we cannot say what the germination will be because they were not bred in a controlled environment and may have succumbed to cross-pollination or disease. If you are asking if seeds you purchased last year but did not plant will still be good, the answer is yes as long as they were kept dry and out of direct sunlight/heat. The germination may decrease some, but generally, most seeds will last a few seasons before they are not worth planting. Either way, we hope this answers your question and we wish you a wonderful growing season!
