Hibiscus mahogany seeds bloom into tall, richly colored Mahogany Hibiscus flower plants — otherwise known as red-leaf hibiscus or cranberry hibiscus plants. Dramatic height and awesome deep burgundy, maple-shaped leaves with serrated edges give this hibiscus foliage plant a regal appearance. As such it can be used quite effectively in landscape settings as a foliar hedge or as a specimen plant, effortlessly adding color and depth. It's commonly grown for cut flower filler as well, especially for late summer and autumnal decorative displays or floral arrangements.

Or consider growing it in large containers with other vigorous sun-loving plants — as it comfortably grows indoors or out in the right environment. Fully versatile, Mahogany hibiscus flowers have proven performance as a water pond plant and are also known to be deer-resistant and drought-tolerant! Growers take note that the foliage has green and maroon tones in the greenhouse, but matures to burgundy in full sun outdoors.

Hibiscus Mahogany Splendor seeds are easy and quick to raise and take roughly 130 days to bloom in full. These flowers thrive in heat and warm, moist, slightly acidic soil.

Cassandra P. (5/5)

Great foliage plant

"I grow this every year. Looks good in my containers."

Jeanie S. (5/5)

Vigorous growth is an understatement

"I’ve grown this variety several years in zone 6. Sown in early March, germinates quickly with about 90% yield. Grown in cool greenhouse until mid May (last frost), transplanted to garden in part shade. Gets to about 8 feet tall before the first frost takes it out. Dense foliage makes it an excellent annual screen for the patio."

Q&A

I grew these years ago and seem to recall that the seeds need to be scarified by nicking the shell. True?
Hello! Thank you for reaching out. While not required, many growers do recommend knicking these seeds and soaking in warm water overnight. Also keep in mind that light is required for proper germination. We hope this helps! Happy growing!
