American Giant is a super tall hybrid sunflower is a sure bet to sell to homeowners who are itching to grow the tallest sunflower in the neighborhood! Growing anywhere from 8 to 15' tall, American Giant Sunflower is less likely to fall over in wind or rain compared to other "giant" types. It also makes an excellent windbreak along hedgerows or the perimeter of properties. Best yet, leave the heads on for seed for the birds later in the season!

Definitely not Giant

"I planted these with hopes of having a sunflower grown privacy fence between my house and the neighbors. What I got was some spindly sunflowers that are barely 4 feet tall. Of the ones that grew only some have reached that height the rest are super small. They also seem very weak in their trunks and a few have snapped over not able to hold up the flowers very small heads. I’ve also noticed that the stems appear to have split which is odd. I’m so disappointed. I purchased basic sunflowers years ago and they keep reseeding and come back every year. They also each year grow very tall, I had such high hopes for these seeds but they pretty much failed to grow and are so weak and thin. I’ve fertilized them and water them every other day to get them established. My other sunflowers I just leave alone and they are amazing. So I don’t know what more I could have done to help these grow. I’m at a loss."

They didn't grow

"This year summer was very wet in spring and summer was very dry so they did not come up but the smaller ones with many colors grew and still blooming this late"

Planted Giants in zone 10A

"The Giant seeds from Harris sprouted at nearly 100%. I planted at least 140 seeds in my back yard. I planted at the beginning of April and had flowers by the end of June. After removing the first bloom I continued to get smaller blooms on the stem. They bloomed about 1 week earlier than the Mammoth seeds I purchased. I will replant again this summer in August. I would also purchase these again."

I’m satisfied

"I haven’t grown Sunflower for several years because of a rabbit infestation. Out of the twelve seed I planted in my fenced garden I had nine survive the insects and other predators. They produced beautiful multipleheaded flowers. Unfortunately, a heavy rain storm made the flowers look bedraggled so I didn’t send a photo."
