As a trailing type lobelia, the Regattas have proven to flower up to a week earlier than other trailing seed lobelia. An additional plus from the grower's standpoint is they flower at a compact stage of growth, thus facilitating early season sales. Lobelia is commonly known as Cardinal Flower.

Color: Light blue

Important Germination Note: This variety is offered in multi-pelleted seed. Germination issues are common when moisture levels are not properly maintained. Water management for multi-pelleted seed is similar to that of a clay pellet. Simply water-in these pellets and follow the recommended crop culture for the variety or mix. The water-soluble wax of these pellets takes longer to completely dissolve even when fully submerged in water. Do not attempt to dissolve the pellet within a single watering. Instead, maintain a moisture level of four to five (medium wet to saturated) from sowing until the pellet is fully dissolved. Maintain high relative humidity in the germination environment along with adequate soil moisture, exposing the seed to proper germination conditions. The use of plastic domes or regular misting is helpful in keeping the adequate moisture until the seed germinates. Once the sowing stage begins, if the pellets dry out, they become hard to dissolve. This is why we highly recommend high moisture content right from the beginning.

Great germination and strong growth

"Great germination and strong growth"

DAVID L. (5/5)

Beautiful hanging baskets

"Started on 2/1 and beautiful hanging baskets by mid-June. My only issue is that they don't tolerate summer well and some plants did not survive the heat. Full sun in spring, move to part shade in summer months."

Tricky, but worth it!

"I had trouble with these pelletted Regatta Sky Blue seeds and pretty much failed my first attempt at starts. My second try resulted in beautiful starts and transplants that are going strong. The first try I used what I would classify as wet soil, and upon inspection of my poor starts, I could see the pellets just didn't dissolve. I gave some pellets to my mother-in-law, and her's were not doing well either. The second try I used soil saturated with water and kept it nearly that wet until the plants came up. After I explained my problem to my mother-in-law, she saturated the soil, and her starts came up well (she was about 2 weeks behind my first attempt). Every pellet produced on my second attempt. I would like to see Harris Seed include much more detailed/descriptive directions for those of us who aren't master gardeners."
