Watermelon radish is a Chinese ball-shaped radish that has a pinkish-red interior color surrounded by a whitish flesh that turns green at the shoulders. When cut in half, it resembles a watermelon. Depending on when they are harvested, the radish roots can measure from 2 to 4" in diameter and have tall tops. The flesh is crisp and mildly sweet, and is great in salads.

First attempt

"Grew well but inconsistent color & size. A nice addition to salads & dips."

Easy to grow

"Good germination and easy to grow. Not as bright as pictured."

BARRY M. (4/5)

Excellent

"Great germination and the radishes are getting close to harvest. Plenty to share with friends and neighbors!"

Plant in July-August

"These are awesome fall radishes, and survive frosts in my zone 6 until December or sustained freeze below 22F. They grow best here in October when the radish doubles or triples in size before a deep freeze. I pull all mine before a deep freeze and store in the fridge. We have 2 left in mid March but now it’s time to plant the early varieties! Enjoy these beauties!"

Not a big seller for me, but I met a guy who sells them to restaurants

"These are a FALL radish. As a spring crop, they are small and may bolt. I have seen them in restaurants. A couple of thin slices on a salad look good and taste good too. For me, they are at their best after my selling season has ended. IMO, If a restaurant is buying a dozen or so a week, you need to be selling them other stuff too, to make it worth your time. (Sliced thin one radish goes a long way). If you have a winter sale venue, like an indoor farmers market, these radishes store well, and can be sold into mid winter."
