Harvest for baby or mature beets. Kestrel is a dual purpose variety that shapes up early into a smooth, globe shaped, dark red root that can be harvested early for baby beets or left in the field to mature to full size. The roots have refined tap roots, small crowns and 12 to 13" semi-glossy, bright green tops. Use this variety for an early bunching variety. Intermediate resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew, cercospora and rhizoctonia. Tolerance to bolting.

Beets are flourishing

"Beets are flourishing"

MICHAEL S. (5/5)

OMG

"Will buy this seed again for next year. Germination was near 100percent. Color, dark red. The yield was so great, no need to plant again this fall. Canned 26 jars pickled beets. Pic shows just one picking, had two."

Michael R. (5/5)

"All is doing well so far"

Jeffrey M. (5/5)

Proven performer

"Have grown Kestrel beets for the last 3 seasons. They have been great for bunching, and have sold many bushels for canning. Recommend."

Hansel F. (5/5)

Beautiful beets!

"Very clean. Even the ones that got a bit bigger were tender and sweet. No problems with pests. Good germination. Would plant again ( if free shipping)."

New to us

"These produced tender, flavorful beets. Will definitely plant them, next year."

Linda B. (5/5)

best beets ever

"Our family was always a huge fan of Detroit Dark Red Beets. I tried Kestral Beets when I could not get the other seed. I love these beets for their super quality. They hold their color, and they are by far the sweetest beet I ever tried. I have purchased seeds for friends who's first question is, "Where did you get those beet seeds?" They love them."

Patricia K. (5/5)

Good all-around beet.

"Have been growing the beet for the past four or five years. Well liked in this household and market customers are very happy with the product. Had thought about trying a different beet, but hate to fix something that isn't broke."

Q&A

what is the difference between treated and untreated seed
Hi Darlene, Treated Seed has been treated in an appropriate manner to protect it from specific seed- or soil-borne pathogens and thus improve its performance. The treatment may be hot water, chemical, or biological, depending on the pathogen involved. Treatment is applied under controlled conditions, in a commonly recognized fashion, at the manufacturer’s recommended rate. Untreated Seed is clean and has not been treated using any chemical, biological, or physical method.
