Rutger University released the first Rutger tomato seeds in 1934 for commercial growers. Today, the seeds are a gardener's favorite. Known for crack resistant tomatoes of mild flavor, this variety has a medium-large indeterminate vine that performs best on stakes or a trellis. The small 6- to 8-ounce fruit are perfect for canning and slicing for sandwiches and salads. Resistance to Alternaria, Fusarium Wilt, and Verticillium Wilt.

100% germination

"So glad I tried Harris Rutgers this spring. The seeds I bought from another supplier had only 10% germination. Seedbed conditions were identical."

The tomatoes seed’s that I

"The tomatoes seed’s that I started all came up with in a week Iam very pleased with my purchase. Iam how ever not so pleased with my peppers out o 18 seeds started only 5 came up I replanted and only 3 more came up not sure what’s wrong I believe it’s the seeds because my brother had the same problem with his peppers"

DENNIS S. (5/5)

I bought the Harris Seed Rutger and did good.

"I had germination around 90%. Had no big problems with plants or fruit. Bugs got a few but, I had plenty of tomatoes for me. I picked everything before first frost. And, I had lots of delicious ripe tomatoes for sauce the week of Christmas. I'll be checking back hoping you get more indeterminate Rutgers. Thanks"

Q&A

Are Rutgers a low acid tomato.
Hi Jim, than you for contacting us regarding Tomato Rutgers. This variety of tomato has come from the Rutgers breeding program and is known for having great flavor that balances sweetness with acidity. It is also resistant to cracking. Of course, flavor is subjective and can be affected by the growing environment but this tomato is a popular variety for many growers!
