- Hello! Thank you for reaching out. Growers have many uses for black plastic mulch. It is used both ways but the most common use is for covering and "heating" the rows that you will be planting in. It is used quite a bit by melon and tomato farmers to keep that soil nice and warm for those heat-loving crops. We hope this helps.
