(R400MR) A superior mushroom-type variety with large kernels that pop into ball and mushroom shaped flakes, excellent for caramel and kettle corn. Plants are sturdy with dark green leaves. Great addition for Fall and Winter CSA.

Gourmet mushroom popcorn is renowned for its denser texture and quality, which makes it sturdy enough to stand up to heavier coatings. The chewier texture also provides more bite, creating a more satisfying snacking experience. Disease-resistant, high-yield plants help ensure a reliable harvest for home poppers and market sales.

Great popcorn

"The best popcorn I have ever grown in the garden. It Grew tall and healthy and had nice full 8 to 10 Inch ears of corn. And it popped great with big full Kernels of popcorn."

DAVID W. (5/5)

Good seed but variety has some issues.

"The seed germinated quickly, grew well but seemed to fall apart during crop maturity. By that I mean stalks were weak compared to other corn I grew and the ears seemed to have more worm issues. Will try it again but will also try another variety for comparison."

REBECCA R. (4/5)

"Overall I like what I see here 12'+ tall stalks some nice long ears I think I need to plant at a little lower population next year. Ears are drying down, so we haven't tasted it yet."

Q&A

How far apart do you plant popcorn hybrids from one another. Will they cross pollinate if planted next row
Hi there, thanks for your question. Yes, the hybrids will absolutely cross pollinate if planted in the next row. A good rule to follow is to plant different corn varieties 20-50 feet away. If planting down wind of the summer wind (during pollination) plant 50 feet away. If planting safely away from the path of the wind you you can plant 20 ft away.
are seeds GMO altered
Hi Glenn! Popcorn Gourmet Mushroom F1 is not a Biotech/GMO variety, it was developed through conventional breeding methods. Thanks for reaching out to us!

Hello! Do these seeds need to be isolated from other corn?
Hi Lindsey, Popcorn Gourmet Mushroom is a superior variety with large kernels and makes excellent caramel and kettle corn. It also makes a great addition as an ornamental to your home or market stand. Popcorn should be isolated from other sweet corn varieties as it can cross pollinate. Attached is a simple guide with recommendations for how to best achieve isolation. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1537/5553/files/SweetCornGeneticTypes.pdf?v=1590156342
How long before expire
Hi Denise, We order new seed each season, and most of our seeds are packaged for the current growing season, though there is a chance that you may receive carryover seed from the year before. Any seed that you receive has been tested for germination within the last 6 months and was found to exceed our germination and quality standards. Although it is optimal to use seed within a year of purchase, seed can be used over multiple years if it is stored properly. The expected longevity of the seed depends on the seed type and treatment. For large seed (corn, beans, peas) germination tends to hold steady for about 3 years, while smaller seed types can be longer. After a few years of storage you may begin to see a decline in germination and seedling vigor. To store seeds properly, put the seeds in a plastic or metal container along with a silica gel pack to help absorb any moisture. Store the container in a cool, dry area. Do not store in a refrigerator, due to the high moisture environment they create. We hope these tips help!
