AAS Winner
Considered a "hedgiflora" petunia, this series is an aggressive grower, forming a shrub-like shape that holds all summer long. It exhibits high Botrytis tolerance, recovers quickly after rain, and resists lodging. Tidal Wave Velour Red petunias are excellent for landscape use and large containers, where the masses of 2" blooms cover the vigorous growing plants. When spaced 12" apart, plants make a dense mounded hedge. When spaced 24" or more apart, plants spread like a ground cover up to 4'.

Color: Dark blood red w/ velvety undertones and dark throat

Petunia velour red quite not

"Petunia velour red quite not as a deep red as shown in photo however still very beautiful. My tidal wave coral did good managed to stay alive during 3 days of and on freeze. Impressed."

Excellent seeds

"Vibrant red, true to color"

DARLENE M. (5/5)

Stunning Display

"This is my second year growing Petunias from seed. I planted 100 Red Velour Tidal wave seeds, and had great germination. I transplanted them outdoors as soon as danger of frost had passed and once the plants were about 9 weeks from seed, they were an actual tidal wave of flowers. If you want a beautiful display of drought tolerant flowers that lasts until frost, definitely get these. Tip: Remember they need light to germinate so do not cover the seeds with soil."

NICOLE M. (5/5)

Excellent seed!

"First time growing petunias from seed. I really babied them. They turned out beautiful!"

My Favorite Petunias

"These are my go-to petunias! This is my 2nd year planting them. They are easy to grow and once they take off…WOW!! They did so well this year I had to give some to my mother and my sister. The photo is my flower box. I also have 3 large pots that are overflowing."

Petunia Tidal Wave Red Velour

"I love the color. I planted two seeds per cell because I knew they wouldn't all germinate.....but they did!. They have flourished."

NORA W. (5/5)

Awesome!

"I have them planted all over town"

DARMAN R. (5/5)

I love the seeds and the service. What I really don’t like is the lawyer-written language occupying the entire back of each packet. It looks to be rooted in corporate fear of your customers. It makes me think that Harris Seeds want an adversarial relationship with its customers. Please ask your attorneys to either eliminate this language or at least use words which welcomes your customers as valued colleagues.

"Excellent seeds"

One of my Faves

"This is one of my favorite petunias! I have purchased these seeds from Harris several times and never experienced any issues with germination, even with seed from prior year, surprisingly. These are not red like you find in petunias at the nursery but a deep, dark red - just beautiful! They are vigorous growers and, in my area, always need cut back mid-season for a second flush."

Nice plant. Pretty color. Survived

"Nice plant. Pretty color. Survived and bloomed through our Texas summer but not well. Tidal wave silver was the 5 star winner in this category,"

Q&A

What is the difference between cascading and wave petunias? And do cascading petunias have to be dead headed? Can Cascading petunias take the heat?
Hello! Thank you for reaching out! And great question! The terms are pretty much synonymous. Cascading was used before wave came along and now wave is patented by a specific breeder. But they both describe the growth habit of the petunia, neither needs to be deadheaded and perform well in warmer climates. Happy growing!
