A more vigorous version of Million Gold, this variety offers the same heat and cool tolerances, and maintains its attractive appearance with very little care all season long. Melampodium is commonly known as Butter Daisy. Masses of 1" golden-orange flowers cover the bushy plants. This underused annual is excellent for gardens, landscapes and mixed combos.

Neighbors are stopping to compliment

"Neighbors are stopping to compliment them. Some self seeding from last year- almost ti the point of being invasive. The picture shows the Melampodium along the edge of the driveway and sprinkled among the Profusion Zinnias, which were planted from commercial plants."

Nice yellow plant for a no fuss border.

"High germination rate. Grows well in a pot and then in the ground. Tolerated cool temperatures and even a mid frost after planting. Bloomed from spring through August until after about two months of 100 degree weather wore it out."

Continuous bloom. Reliable performance.

"No deadhead needed, spent flowers just go away without notice as another or two replaces it. Mine grew to be between 16-20 inches tall, and needed some support late summer when the annual behind it was removed, the stem was very strong, almost woody, and I wasn't able to remove it was so tough during fall cleanup. It had to be, given how well branched and laden with blooms all summer long. I think if they were by themselves they would have been more upright but were lazy in relying on its posterior neighbor. In other words, the longer season you have, give it the necessary spacing so it can be its best. After germination and transplant, they did nothing, nada, for 2 weeks, but then took off before I knew it. So take into consideration transplant adjustment. I do abuse my seedlings, so know this flower is reliable."

Perfect Little flower

"Bought these seeds some time back and thought I would give them a try. Really glad I did! They took awhile to germinate and to get going - they want to be babies for awhile. But once I put them out - oh, my goodness! They really went to town! Grew fast, have been covered with little gold flowers all summer and they are still going strong. Some other plants are starting to look tired - September 8, 2020 - Fallon, NV - it's been a very dry summer but they are on a drip and just performing beautifully. Planting these again. Thank you!"
