Q&A

Hi. Years ago I saved seeds from my favorite color impatient. I don't have any of those seeds anymore and the impatients I plant now don't produce any seeds. I don't understand how that can happen unless the plants are being genetically modified in some way. Do the seeds you sell produce plants that will have seeds? I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you. Connie Evans
Hi Connie! Many, if not all of the modern hybrid impatiens have been bred to be “self-cleaning.” This means the flower parts drop off after the blooms fade to make them more low maintenance and tidy despite lack of deadheading. Because this is so, they set few, if any seed heads. There are still a few old world variety impatiens known as Balsamina impatiens that still produce seed heads but we, unfortunately, do not carry those. We hope this helps.
